How Hot Yoga Can Benefit Your Health?

Hot yoga aims to offer mind relaxation and enhance physical fitness. A heated environment helps yoga become more challenging; however, some of the advantages are worth it, particularly if you are someone who is looking forward to progress in the areas listed below.

Enhance flexibility
Stretching your muscles post-warm-up is safe and better than stretching them in cold conditions. A hot environment like the one in a hot yoga studio will make it easy for you to do yoga poses. The warm temperature lets you stretch more and attain a better motion range.

Helps build bone density
Supporting weight when you do a yoga pose helps build the density of your bones. This is significant for elder adults since their bone density tends to decline as they age.

Helps reduce stress
It is a common fact that most people resort to practising yoga since it helps handle stress. Research shows that inactive adults were able to reduce stress significantly by taking a 16-week hot yoga program.

Relieves depression
Yoga helps you relax and enhance your mood. It is also a helpful therapy to reduce depression symptoms.

Offers cardiovascular boost
When you strike various hot yoga poses in a heated environment, your lungs, heart and muscles can receive a challenging workout compared to the same poses in a normal environment. A study says one hot yoga session is equal to a brisk walk of 3.5 miles per hour to get your heart pumped.

Decreases blood glucose levels
While any exercise type can help you burn energy and decrease glucose levels, hot yoga is especially beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes.

Enhances skin nourishment
Sweating is the main intent of hot yoga. When you sweat in a warm environment, it helps to enhance circulation thereby bringing blood that is rich in nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells. This helps nourish the skin from within.

What is Hot Yoga?

Yoga is great for your overall health, wellness, and weight loss. Its benefits are tremendous for your physical and psychological health. There are many different styles of yoga that are practised in the world. Hot yoga is one of these styles which has become intensely popular in recent years.

Hot yoga, also known as Bikram Yoga, was developed by Bikram Choudhury in Kolkata (India). Although “hot” and “Bikram” are used interchangeably, both are different. Hot yoga refers to yoga poses or exercises which are done in a heated room or studio. Whereas Bikram yoga only includes one style of hot yoga which is performed in a room heated to 105° F with 40% humidity. It includes a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises (pranayama exercises) which are performed in each 90-minute class.

The main purpose of hot yoga is to induce profuse sweating by performing vigorous yoga poses at high temperature. The heat and intense sweating are believed to cleanse your body and loosen your muscle.

Some tips and precautions before you join a hot yoga class

1. Since you will be sweating a lot, it is important to bring your own yoga mat and choose the right yoga wear.

2. Also, drink plenty of water before and during the session to stay hydrated. Also, it is recommended to eat 2 hours before your class.

3. The pregnant woman should avoid hot yoga as it raises the core temperature of the body.

4. If you have any chronic conditions, then consult your doctor first before joining the class.
